For Cats and Dogs & their People.Humans help animal stress, just as much as pets can help their people's stress

3rd in Series of Stress Out™ Books

Animals can relieve human stress. One study reported at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions, showed that pets may play a role in taming physical responses to stress. A few minutes with a dog before an upcoming surgical operation, people have experienced a 37% reduction in their anxiety levels.

And people can relieve stress in animals. Our dogs and cats can be negatively effected by various forms ofhappy dog stress as well. They depend on their people to keep them safe and healthy.

Cats and dogs are our special companions, giving unconditional love and devotion. When they are puppies and kittens, these gentle beings steal our hearts with their cute faces and playfulness. Yet, as they get older just like children, they change and require us to help them learn their boundaries, learn the best behaviors, eat right and grow into the best dog or cat they can be in our home.

This book is an educational tool promoting responsible pet care and guardianship, as well as an inspiration.  This book can be used as an educational and fundraising tool for animal related causes. Proceeds from every sale will benefit selected animal groups. When you purchase your book, you choose the charity to benefit from the donation.

Some of the stories in the book, include:

OVERPROTECTIVE DOGS CAN BE STRESSED OUT DOGS

cute small dogCarla’s story tells how she learned that after a friend’s death, no one was able to take care of her dog because the dog had always been aggressive towards everyone except this one woman. She thought is was cute protective behavior, however, the grieving family could not deal with the, now even more aggressive and scared, dog, so he had to be put down. Carla had thought it was cute that her dog was so devoted to only her, and wouldn’t have anything to do with her husband; but after learning of her friends situation, she saw that perhaps her family would have to euthanize her dog if something ever happened to her. She couldn’t stand that thought, and took the measures to socialize her dog appropriately with her other family members and friends.

HELPING HEAL WITH CLOSURE
Tammy experienced how animals need closure as well, after the death of one of her long time pet companions.

REDUCING STRESS WITH GOOD NUTRITION
Sandy never thought much about her dog's nutrition feeding him whatever cheap food, and table scraps she had. After a dog food recall, she started reading more about what was good for her dog's health. Wanting him to live a long and healthy life, she changed what she was (and was not) feeding her devoted companion.

REDUCING STRESS WITH SAFE TRAVEL IN THE CAR
It took a broken leg for Janie to see the stress she and her dog were experiencing in her car. She let her little dog roam the front seat, including her lap while she drove. She always laughed saying that it was fun to have him in her lap, he liked the freedom and she though it was cute. A sudden stop when she couldn’t reach sent her dog flying hard into the dashboard and then to the floor, breaking his leg. A stern consult from her Vet left her feeling guilty that she had actually hurt her beloved pet with her negligence. She now tethers her dog when he’s in the car and they are both less stressed.

HEALTH BENEFITS
Steve lowered his blood pressure and dropped 50 pounds from walking his dog everyday instead of sending him to the yard alone to “do his business”.

LEASHING WITH LOVE
After personally feeling what the spike collar felt like on her dog, Marcia switched to a more humane collar and enrolled in proper leash training.

GETTING INTO STRIDE
Victoria learned that running with an animal on a leash took some getting used to, but after a time they developed this amazing rhythm.  Their strides began to match and they moved together in beautiful symmetry.

TRUSTED CONFIDANT
Sharon told all her secrets to her cat when she felt betrayed by friends; and instead of judgment or unwanted advice, she was rewarded with purrs and snuggles.

HEALING A HEARTlancelot, one blue eye, one gold eye

After losing my beautiful Lancelot to cancer after 13 dedicated years 24/7, the loss was so intense it was difficult to even consider that another cat could fill that void. Then while volunteering at a shelter, I was asked if I would consider fostering a lovely little dog. This little champion is healing my heart in ways I could never imagine.

"There has never been a cat who couldn't calm me down,
by walking slowly past my chair."

~ Rod McKuen

OPENING A LIFE TO POSSIBILITIES
The boundaries in Louis' life have expanded after he received his service dog. He can do more and go more, and now he feels the possibilities are almost endless.

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world,
the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous...
is his dog."
~
George Graham Vest, 1870

SAVING A LIFE
Shannon was looking for a designer dog that would look good on the end of a leash until a friend asked her to visit a local shelter with her. The dog that caught her eye and then her heart is now the best accessory in her life.

PEACEFUL CREATIVITYhoney, beautiful collie blend
Robert runs his small business from home, and is known to spend countless hours on end at his computer, without a break. When he agreed to housesit with his friends dog for a few days, he suddenly had to change his schedule to accommodate the dog's need for a walk every few hours. It was during theses breaks from his computer, that Robert discovered this breath of fresh air was what he needed to clear his mind, plus he found himself more productive in less time when he returned to his work. After his dog-sitting stint was over, he wasted no time in filling that position with a dog of his own.

"Outside of a dog, a book is probably man's best friend; inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."
~ Groucho Marx ~
